Indian Motorcycle is on the Rise Again

In 1953, the Indian motorcycle is shut down. They couldn’t get back into public sales after the war. The Indian motorcycle is back in production again in 1999, this was called the Gilroy Indian motorcycle, because it was manufactured in Gilroy, California. For the second time the Indian motorcycle gets shut down in 2003. Third time is the charm.

Production is set to begin again for the Indian motorcycle in mid to late 2008. The Indian motorcycle is back on the rise with a dealership in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. This is to be the first of 50 expected dealerships. So what is the new 2009 Indian motorcycle going to be like?

Right now, the Indian motorcycle, the Chief, is in prototype stage. They do, however, have a waiting list to be on the list to get one of the first Chief’s to roll out of the factory. So what does it take to be at the top of the list? A thousand dollar deposit. While the exact price of the new Indian motorcycle is not listed, they are stating that it will be worth every penny.

While there is not a lot of detail on this new Indian motorcycle, they do say that customizations will be available. Including seats and saddlebags and fenders and wheels and even the color scheme. It can be classically crimson, or some 21st century hand painted design.

What does the new Indian motorcycle company stress? It stresses the worth of the Indian motorcycle to bear the Indian motorcycle name. There are little details, but it appears as if they are waiting until the motorcycle is perfect before announcing, for the third time, that they are back in business with a viable product. They have studied many successful motorcycle manufacturers. They have also studied Harley-Davidson’s comeback from near bankruptcy. All this studying and testing, is in the hopes of bringing the legendary Indian motorcycle to life once again.

Prior to World War II, the Indian motorcycle was one of the most manufactured motorcycles in America. It was the oldest and the largest. During the war, the Indian motorcycle was targeting possible military use. After the war, it was turned back over to civilian use, but was not developed properly and was of poor quality. It was because of this that production was shut down in 1953.

There was a time when the Indian motorcycle was number one in America. In addition to the new Indian motorcycle, the Chief, the Indian motorcycle company plans of releasing a line of clothing and accessories, not only for its new Chief, but also for the Gilroy Indian motorcycle.

While the Indian motorcycle has never been out of the public eye, it was off the market, at least new models, but it seems there are many who are looking to get a piece of the Indian motorcycle’s past. Now a whole new generation of the Indian motorcycle’s enthusiasts can get a piece of the Indian motorcycle’s future.
