The History of Triumph Motorcycles

August 21st, 2008

Originally, Triumph motorcycles was founded by Siegfried Bettmann as the Triumph Cycle Company in 1887 in Britain It started off just manufacturing manual bicycles, but in 1902, it began manufacturing motorcycles. They were manufacturing 500 motorcycles a year by 1905. Triumph motorcycles had grown to a manufacturing plant 500,000 square feet and employing 3000 people by 1925. By this time, Triumph motorcycles were producing 25,000 to 30,000 motorcycles per year.

At some point after 1935, Triumph motorcycles manufacturing company was sold and renamed Triumph Engineering Company. During World War II, all Triumph motorcycles made were requisitioned by the government. In 1946, civilian manufacturing took over again. It was at this point, that Triumph motorcycles tried to set up dealership in America. In 1951, Triumph motorcycles was bought out by BSA group.

By 1965 they were producing about 800 Triumph motorcycles per week. Of these, 80% was scheduled to be shipped to America. By the early 1970s, production began to slow, and by 1974, there were no Triumph motorcycles being produced. By 1975, production resumed with 350 Triumph motorcycles being produced a week. But even after all the negotiations, the company still liquidated in 1983.

John Bloor bought the rights to Triumph motorcycles and a vision was born. In order for the company to be successful, it was decided that a range of different Triumph motorcycles must be manufactured at the same plant at the same time.

By 1994, Triumph Motorcycles America Ltd was created. In early 1995, 20,000 Triumph motorcycles had been built and Triumph motorcycles introduced its clothing and accessories line of products. By January of 2000, Triumph motorcycles built its 100,000th motorcycle. They still have products commemorating their humble beginnings, including some items with logos from old owners of Triumph motorcycles and old logos.

There are many different models of Triumph motorcycles on the market currently. The Thruxton, speedmaster, tiger and the scrambler are just a few. One of the more popular ones is the Bonneville. It is a classic with all the modern amenities. These models of Triumph motorcycles have an air cooled, parallel twin cylinder 865 cc engine. The Bonneville has a 30.5 inch seat. These Triumph motorcycles have a fuel capacity of 4.2 gallons. Color options include Aluminum silver, fusion white, claret, and jet black with black engine finish.

Triumph motorcycles also offer the America. This is a cruiser motorcycle, with the comforts for long rides. It holds a 5.1 gallon fuel capacity, making it great for long trips. It has an air cooled, parallel twin engine. This line of Triumph motorcycles comes in phantom black, pacific blue and new england white with a gold coach line, and pacific blue and Aegean with a gold coach line.

Triumph motorcycles has been through ups and downs and multiple changes. From pre-war, to liquidation, to John Bloor, Triumph has tried and failed and tried again. From cruisers to sports, Triumph motorcycles have a lot of options to offer. In the end, Triumph motorcycles has certainly triumphed.

When looking at motorcycles for sale, know your budget. Never let a dealer or individual try to talk you into purchasing motorcycles for sale above your budget. It wouldn’t help you to buy the bike of your dreams, only to drown in the debt that occurs because of it. You would either end up falling behind on your payment, or sacrificing something you really can’t afford to sacrifice. If you fail to pay for your bike, you may be the one putting a motorcycles for sale sign on in, or worse, having it repossessed.

When looking at motorcycles for sale, only look at motorcycles for sale in the category you plan on buying. This will help you stick to your decision and prevent you from regretting a buy in the future.

Motorcycle Trailers: Hauling and Being Hauled

August 19th, 2008

There are two types of motorcycle trailers, those meant for hauling items behind a motorcycle, and those meant simply for hauling the motorcycle itself. You may at some point have a need for both.

A Motorcycle trailer hitch can be attached to a motorcycle to allow the driver to haul hundreds of extra pounds of equipment and supplies. This could be very useful on long trips, such as rallies and tours. The motorcycle trailers hitch is secured to the motorcycle itself with no alterations necessary in most cases. You can either rent motorcycle trailers or purchase them.

Motorcycle trailers meant for hauling cargo can come in sizes starting at 14 cubic feet ranging all the way up to 29 cubic feet. Motorcycle trailers can carry an additional 100 to 250 pounds of cargo. motorcycle trailers can have carpeting, chrome bumpers, trim kits, and couplers, double skin lids, interior lighting, flashing side marker lights, mag wheels, and these motorcycle trailers can be painted to match your motorcycle. Some motorcycle trailers can be very simple and have nothing more then the shell of motorcycle trailers that simply haul and keep the weather out of your belongings. Other motorcycle trailers can be elaborate, as well as being equipped with spare tire compartments. These can be fiberglass, steel, or aluminum.

Motorcycle trailers intended for hauling motorcycles can be either open or enclosed. The enclosed of course offers more protection from the elements. Some can be whole motorcycle trailers that attach to another vehicle, such as a truck, while some simpler designs simply allow for the motorcycle to be stored in the bed of the truck. Motorcycle trailers can have wheel chocks, which lock the wheel in place so that during travel the motorcycle is stable. Motorcycle trailers can have jacks that stabilize entire motorcycle trailers when loading and unloading. In motorcycle trailers, D rings can be added anywhere inside the trailer for additional securing during travel. These motorcycle trailers can be customized to match the motorcycle, promote a product or service, or simply to look beautiful. Motorcycle trailers meant for hauling motorcycles can be aluminum or steel.

Motorcycle trailers can come in handy time after time after time. It can be a multi purpose item along with a work of beauty. It can match your motorcycle or vehicle, or you can make a statement and have it stand out with advertisements, company logos, or beautiful paintings.

Whether you are going on a week long rally, or taking a tour across the country, there is nothing like knowing you are prepared for everything with the extra equipment and supplies you are able to carry with motorcycle trailers intended to haul cargo. On the other hand, there is nothing like knowing you can pack up the tent and sleeping bag and fishing supplies and head out to the lake either. If you are moving, there is nothing better then knowing that your precious cargo, you custom built bike, is safely locked up and stabilized in motorcycle trailer meant to haul and protect your motorcycle.

Motorcycle Trader: The World of Buying and Selling Motorcycles

August 18th, 2008

A motorcycle trader is a specialized publication that brings buyers and sellers together. The motorcycle trader offers sections for placing ads to buy and sell and even trade. The motorcycle trader can be divided into ads from private individuals and from dealers.

In a motorcycle trader, you can generally input what you are looking for and receive a wide range of results. The advantage to a motorcycle trader is that you have access to many more motorcycles then you would if you just looked for motorcycles where you live. The motorcycle trader brings those who want to buy and those who want to sell together in a way that was previous impossible.

A motorcycle trader can be a good thing, but watch out, making a deal without seeing the motorcycle can be very dangerous. Any one can say anything without it being true. Always physically see the motorcycle trader merchandise before trading or buying, even if there are pictures.

Motorcycle trader not only offers ads for buying and selling motorcycles, but also services and advise to other motorcycle owners. There are some with news and club meetings. Basically it is a place where anyone and everyone who is interested in motorcycles can get together and meet, discuss, and the items most desired.

The motorcycle market is packed with different motorcycle trader magazines, and advertisements. With everything on the market, going to a motorcycle trader can be one of the best places to find what you are looking for.

When placing ads in motorcycle trader publications, be sure that you place the ad in multiple publications so that you have the best possible chance of finding someone who will pay what you want for your motorcycle. The more people who look at it, the better chance you have of finding the right buyer. Likewise, if you are buying, the more motorcycle trader publications you look at the more likely you will be to find your dream motorcycle, or at least get close.

Be sure to include all specs for the motorcycle in the motorcycle trader publication. This should include make, model, year, engine size, fuel capacity, and any accessories available. If there are any problems with it, it is best to put it right in the open. Most of the time motorcycle enthusiast won’t mind having to repair minor damages in the motorcycles they purchase. If this will be a problem however, finding out after purchasing it is not the best time for the buyer to notice a problem. They may bring it back and demand their money back, or worse yet, they may say you are a bad business person for not disclosing such information.

Whether you go to a dealership, a used motorcycle lot, or advertise in a motorcycle trader, be sure to use caution when giving information about what you are looking for or looking to sell, people will take advantage of you if they know either how badly you want something, or how badly you want to sell something.

All about Motorcycle Jump Games

August 17th, 2008

Motorcycle Jump games can be one of the most dangerous competitions in X games. Land the wrong way and it could mean a serious injury or even death. Land the right way and you could be come a legend in the Motorcycle world.

Motorcycle Jump Games have continuously advanced as motorcycle jump game participants attempt more daring stunts. Most recently, motorcycle jump games participant Mike Metzger will attempt to jump the fountains at Caesar’s Palace. Metzger is not only going to jump it, but attempt a back flip over it.

Motorcycle jump games have not always been as popular as they are now. In motorcycle jump games, 322 feet has been recorded as the longest motorcycle jump in history and that goes to Robbie Maddison. Even though he broke the record for longest jump, he was not satisfied with it and attempted to do it again. He got no further then 322 feet though and so the record in motorcycle jump games for longest jump will stay at 322 feet.

Record categories for Motorcycle jump games include different objects that are jumped over. In the Airplane category of Motorcycle jump games, Matt Coulter holds the record for five categories; including most airplanes, largest airplane, largest flying airplane, greatest number of flying airplanes, smallest flying airplane and fastest flying airplane.

In the motorcycle jump games category that involves the most tricks, the record holder is Johnny Airtime who completed nine full lock cross ups in one jump, eight of them were whipped and one was straight. He made this record breaking jump in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1977.

For ramp to ramp motorcycle jump games categories, Jason Rennie holds the indoor record in the ramp gap of 120 feet. He also holds the record for total distance, which was 160 feet. Both of which happened on November 22, 2003 in the United Kingdom.

For the motorcycle jump games category of ramp to dirt ramp indoors but with no roof, Seth Enslow holds the record. It was 140 feet for ramp gap and 170 to 180 for total distance of jump. Both of these were in Los Angeles.

Not every motorcycle jump game is a success story. Jumping can be very dangerous. For instance, Michael Hillaby was attempting jump 9 cars placed end to end and failed which caused his death.

This demonstrates that while motorcycle jump games can be fun to watch and for the participants they might be a thrill to do, but they should not be tried by everyone. Only experience jumpers should attempt dare devil motorcycle jump games such as jumping the fountains at Caesars Palace. Jumpers can come from all over the world, but they all have one thing in common. They are thrill seekers. Only a thrill seeker can risk life and dismemberment in Motorcycle jump games. There will always be motorcycle enthusiast who are attempting to break the records, so for now, motorcycle jump games have a safe place in the motorcycle culture.

The World of Motorcycle Accessories

August 16th, 2008

Just as there are many motorcycles to choose from, motorcycle accessories can be just as overwhelming. Motorcycle accessories are generally specific to the make and model of motorcycle. This is not always true, but generally true. There are many generic motorcycle accessories that can be installed on many different makes and models of motorcycles.

Motorcycle accessories such as storage space is a great way to customize it. You can add saddlebags, sissy bar bags, tool pouches, barrel bags, or briefcases. This can give added comfort on long trips or even when simply going to the store for a few things. The number of different bags available for motorcycle accessories is endless.

Remember when adding motorcycle accessories, the more and better motorcycle accessories you add, the more the motorcycle will be worth. Increasing a blue book value could increase the money in your pocket if you decide to sell your motorcycle and upgrade for a better model in the future with more motorcycle accessories.

Motorcycle accessories can be added to just about any part of a motorcycle. In addition to storage spaces, you can add fender ornaments, license plate frames, and fender tips. Motorcycle accessories can make the motorcycle even more attractive, or more cost efficient to operate.

You can add billet caps, muffler cartridges, exhaust tips, fish tail tips, and heat shields. Each of these motorcycle accessories can add color or performance to the motorcycle. Motorcycle accessories such as battery chargers enhance the drivers safety. In the event that the battery of your motorcycle dies, you won’t have to wait for someone to arrive to be able to leave.

Adding motorcycle accessories such as a cargo trailer can also be nice motorcycle accessories to enhance. They can be large or small, black, white, or any number of colors that match your motorcycle. If you are on the road quite a bit and you don’t want to ruin your motorcycle, a motorcycle hauling trailer might be a good idea.

Keep your motorcycle neat and clean with an all season motorcycle accessories and cover. There are many different motorcycle accessories for many different motorcycles. The more and better the accessories that are added, the more likely there will be a rise in blue book value.

Not everyone wants to put motorcycle accessories on their motorcycle, but helmets, jackets, pants, and boots are nice motorcycle accessories for you. Wearing a matching helmet and jacket can bring together the whole look and make you and your motorcycle one. Motorcycle accessories that are painted can give added color to the whole look. For instance, a full face helmet commemorating Lynard Skynard or AC/DC can add a splash of color and make a statement to all who view it. Or you can simply do a helmet commemorating those who are special to you. A family member, friend, or mentor can let every one who views you know where you stand and what’s important to you.

No matter what motorcycle accessories you choose to make a statement with, remember you are saying “I love my motorcycle.” Everyone will see the care and attention you give to your ride, and a great looking ride is not a bad place to be atop.

History of the Honda Motorcycle in America

August 14th, 2008

The Honda motorcycle had established themselves in the Asian market and were looking to expand. After extensive research, it was decided that the Honda motorcycle would come to America. In 1959, the American Honda Motor Company was established in Los Angeles.

In America, the Honda motorcycle and company would find its first home in a former photo studio. Instead of just renting the building, they purchased it, using most of their cash funds in the process. The representative from the Japanese Honda motorcycle company felt that the image of the Honda motorcycle was down due to the loss during the war. While the Japanese portion of the company received great success, the American Honda Motor Company and Honda motorcycle only received one-tenth of the success with just 50,000 to 60,000 Honda Motorcycle s a year.

In addition to the negative image that the Honda motorcycle suffered due to the war, Americans had a negative image of motorcycles to begin with. There were many associations with images like the hell’s angels and bikers being mean and dirty.

When the Honda motorcycle company was first established in America, they had a paltry 8 employees and offered the Dream, the Benly, and the Super Cub or Honda 50. The Honda motorcycle company set its goal at 1,000 Honda motorcycle models per month.

After a substantial marketing effort, including mailing out information to other dealers, running ads in newspapers and motorcycle magazines hoping to bring in customers. Eventually managers from various dealerships arrived to test drive the new Honda motorcycle. The Honda motorcycle was much smaller and boxier then what the dealerships were used to and while they liked the performance, they thought it wouldn’t sell because of the design. By the end of 1959, the American Honda Motor Company sold a small number of Honda motorcycle models, 170 motorcycles to be exact.

Just when they thought they were off to a good start in the new decade, they were bombarded with news that a great many of the Honda motorcycle units that were sold, were overheating. They had to call in mechanics to deal with the problem. The Honda motorcycle was recalled from all the dealerships in order to fix the problem before it could ruin Honda’s reputation before it ever got its start in America.

One of the things that impressed the dealerships the most was that the Honda motorcycle never leaked one drip of oil while all the other motorcycles had. That was one of the things that gave motorcycle dealerships it’s dirty image in the American public.

When they found that some models of the Honda motorcycle was overheating, there was only one model left to promote. The remaining Honda motorcycle was called the super cub in Japan, but named the Honda 50 in America. It had double the horsepower of the other motorcycles on the market, and it was small with a quiet engine. This Honda motorcycle was used and marketed to both men and women. By May of 1961, the Honda motorcycle had sold more then the anticipated 1,000 per month.

The Honda motorcycle had a rocky beginning, but they overcame the poor image, engine issues, and a relatively small budget to be one of the most well known manufacturers of motorcycles in America.

Facts about BMW Motorcycles

August 13th, 2008

BMW has been manufacturing complete motorcycles since 1923. BMW originally made aircraft engines, then made other engines, which were used by other motorcycle companies, but in 1923 they made their own. Ever since then, BMW motorcycles have led the way in innovation and design.

BMW motorcycles began with the boxer engine. Today, BMW motorcycles have four different classes of engines. The four different engine classes is the single cylinder, the two cylinder, a two piston horizontally opposed boxer engine, and three or four cylinders. In addition to the different series, BMW motorcycles have some of their own patents, though not every patent is on all machines.

One of the patented technologies from BMW motorcycles is the paralever. The paralever is technology used in the rear suspension. In this type of suspension, BMW motorcycles has added a second link between the transmission and rear drive, this allows the drive shaft to move along the same axis as the sprung rear frame. BMW motorcycles introduced the paralever in 1988. In 2005, BMW motorcycles changed the paralever by inverting it. By doing so, BMW motorcycles has improved the right turns ground clearance.

The telescopic front fork was first used in 1934 as undamped by the Danish Nimbus, but in 1935, BMW motorcycles introduced a hydraulically dampened telescopic front fork that BMW Motorcycles still use it in some of its less expensive models.

A third patent from BMW motorcycles is the Earles front fork. Named so for the designer, Ernest Earles from England. This was only in use by BMW motorcycles from 1955 to 1969. It was specially designed for use with side cars. The difference in this front fork was that it caused the front end to rise upon hard braking instead of instead of lowering like the telescopic front fork.

A fourth patent was the telelever front fork. This was developed by Saxon-Motodd in Britain in the earl 1980s. There are two primary tubes attached to a telelever arm in the telelever front fork. BMW motorcycles uniquely put a shock absorber between and in back of these two primary tubes. This gives added traction during hard braking so that the driver is not thrown forward. Also in this time frame, BMW motorcycles became one of the first to offer anti lock brakes on their motorcycles.

In 2003, BMW motorcycles brought out a new suspension system called the duolever. This type of suspension system allows a driver to turn into a corner and slam on the brakes and still be stable on the motorcycle.

BMW motorcycles are also quite popular among emergency services. They have been since 1970. BMW states that their BMW motorcycles are used in over 130 countries on five continents for emergency services.

BMW motorcycles have been around for a long time. Their constant innovative technology and new designs make make them a top motorcycle manufacturer. BMW motorcycles have a huge following and have many motorcycle clubs. Two of them are very large and though membership is worldwide, the BMW Riders Association and BMW Motorcycle Owners of America are headquartered in the United States.
